Title: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
Instrument: JEOL 270 MHZ Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer
CHEM 4604
Nuclear magnetic resonance is a phenomenon, which occurs when the nuclei of certain atoms are immersed in a static magnetic field and exposed to a second oscillating magnetic field. Some nuclei experience this phenomenon, and others do not, dependent upon whether they possess a property called spin. Most of the matter you can examine with NMR is composed of molecules. Molecules are composed

The proton NMR has three sets of peaks; a singlet at 7.7305 (2H), a messy doublet at around 2.7036 (4H), and a singlet at 2.5965 (3H). The singlet at 2.5 is consistent with an isolated CH3 adjacent to a mildly electronegative center. consistent with a CH2 group adjacent to two mildly electronegative centers (X-CH2-Y).
