Take the scene Rosa¡¯s cross-examination as an example. If the flash-backs were not used, before the cross-examination, the dating between Mario and Beatrice on the beach would have to be played. The use of flash-backs avoids the repetition of such narrative.
The montage of conversations and recollections ties up the language and images, makes the language of the conversation more vivid, and gives the images the subjective feeling of the narrator.
