Setting
Setting is an essential ingredient to any story or
literary work. In some however it is not only essential but
it also plays a vital role in the development of the plot.
In these such works it’s necessary for the author to paint a
clear picture and provide background of the setting. Three
stories, “August 2002: Night Meeting,” “The Great Gatsby,”
and “The Legend of Sleep Hollow” all fit this mold. Their

Ichabad felt. The imagery and
wording that Irving uses sets him apart from the other two
authors in that regard.
The three works of “August 2002: A Night’s Meeting,”
“The Great Gatsby,” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” all
depict how important a particular setting is to the success
of a story. If the authors had altered the setting just a
tiny bit we may have not received the full appreciation that
these works deserve.
