The author seems to go back and forth between trying to show the full implications of our first world war and delving into the deeper reaches of human nature. Erich Maria Remarque is a fantastic writer of this touching story. Some of his sayings are quite confusing, so this book is not for the younger audience. Despite this, the overall story is good, and keeps you interested. This story will bring out the realness of war, that it isn’t just a gloryfest, but just struggling to stay alive. The book combines together humor, action, and drama all in one story.
