On the whole, it is evident that Raskolnikov is eventually repentant. Although at first his cold side takes full power over him, he then begins to understand what he has done. He cannot bear to live with the fact of knowing that he killed two people, so he becomes insane. This insanity leads to his confession, which proves that he is remorseful for what he did.
