The idea behind zero tolerance policing is that a strong law enforcement approach to minor crime (in particular public order offenses) will prevent more serious crime from occurring and will ultimately lead to falling crime rates. Personally, I believe that while zero tolerance policies may be effective in reducing crime we need to deal with social issues such as child abuse, inequality, lack of jobs, drug addiction, and education issues to truly get to the bottom of crime.
