Before the coming of the Romans and the conquests of Alexander the Great, the art of the ancient Greeks was taken to a whole new level. The often used classical ideas which always consisted of rationality, order and harmony was abandoned for a more dramatic, intense, human creation.

the sculpture has that I feel make it very symbolic. Such as, the wings do not have any support and are free-standing. I think that the Greeks wanted to show that women could conquer with their own strength and needed no one. Nike’s depiction of being “strong and heavy, yet agile and graceful” symbolizes that no matter what is thrown at a woman or how much burden she endures, she is victorious over all.
