Atticus Finch was constantly harassed because of his black and white relations. Tom Robinson was convicted of an appalling crime he did not commit. Tom was an important symbol of innocence destroyed by Maycomb's evil. In a society where everyone is judged, intolerance and injustice is an on going problem.
