Many symbols are used to show the meaning of something going on in the Scarlet Letter. Symbols are used to stand for something else. There are many important symbols throughout the book. I think that the most important symbol is the Scarlet Letter “A”.
One symbol in the book is the rose. The rose stands for “sweet moral blossom”. It grows next to an unsightly plot of weeds in front of the prison. I think

interpreted as Angel. The letter is embroidered on Hester’s chest next to her heart to symbolize her true love Arthur Dimmesdale. It also shows up on the chest of Dimmesdale to show his love for Hester, and the guilt that he has chosen to live with. The ”A” is the main symbol that represents the story as a whole. This is why I think the “A” is the most important symbol in the book.
