As I began reading The Stone Angel I didn’t think I would be able to enjoy the novel just because it is not really the type of book I would read. But I have found something fascinating about the life of Hagar Shipley, about a ninety year old woman who is looking back over her life near the end of it. Hagar seems very set in her ways and is not

to others to read, it was written by a Canadian woman based on a small town in Manitoba, and is told with great passion and descriptive settings. I can almost imagine everything about that small town and the people who lived there. And I think the whole purpose of the stone angel in the graveyard is the one thing that never really changed through out Hagar’s life it just remained constant, looking over things.
