The French Revolutionary Committee of Public Safety, set up to protect the nation and people of France, ironically murdered thousands during what came to be known as the Reign of Terror. Maximilien Robespierre, the leader of the Committee, was put in charge to start the very successful French army and to protect against counter-revolutionary uprisings. Revolution, was set up to protect the people and nation of France. This protection lead to the murder of thousands in what is known as the Reign of Terror. Robespierre, the leader of the Committee, pushed the sever justice to protect against the enemies of liberty. The Law of Suspects was used to give the committee the power to commit the mass murders. In the end Robespierre himself was a victim of his own terror.
