Everybody has some kind of moral or meaning behind it. We can call that its theme. I have read, “The Pearl”, by John Steinbeck. By the end of the story Kino kills three more men. Coyotitio dies and all hope for the family is lost. Kino and Juana return to the town and finally throw the pearl away.
