The novel I read was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. My copy of The Outsiders was published in 1997, but the original was first published in 1967, both by Viking Penguin. S.E. Hinton wrote this novel when she was just sixteen in the 1950’s. The times are different, so some thing were a little confusing, but overall the book was written well. The novel was hard to relate to in some parts because it was written in the 1950’s, and being read in 1998, but it is still a very well written novel. Students should read this novel not as an assignment, but simply because it is a great novel.
