Species are a group of animals or plants which are similar and can breed together to produce young animals or plants of the same kind as them. Speciation, the origin of new species, is the key process that brings new types. Speciation, and the factors that support speciation to occur: geographical barriers, ecological isolation, behavioral isolation and polyploidy, are significant since they create diversity in the organisms of earth. Geographical barriers such as ecological isolation and behavioral isolation are mainly responsible for creating diversity in mostly animals and insects while polyploidy is responsible for plants. Without these mechanisms of speciation, earth would not have the variety of organisms that is has today.
