In “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant, the main character, Matilda Loisel grows up in a upper middle class family and all she wants to do is become noticed and rich. She goes to the ball, become noticed, then all of a sudden, she looses her life by loosing the necklace. The author shows a lot of situational irony to develop the plot that contributes to the surprise ending.
