However, he reluctantly gave in to pressure from the ambassador to accept President Calvin Coolidge’s invitation to return aboard the cruiser USS Memphis. The president presented him with the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Congressional Medal of Honor, and the post office issued an airmail stamp in his honor.
