If a student feels as though a teacher hasn't listened to them in the past, they won't feel as though the teacher will listen to them at all. Respect is a two-way thing; not only do students need to respect their teachers, but I believe that at a certain level, teachers should always try to respect their students. A student learns better from a teacher that the student doesn't resent!
