Individuality is thus disallowed, as it is a remnant of the 'real world'. By a shared homogenous ideology it is hoped the utopia will succeed without fear of dissent and originality. Just as Richard is happy to join the new community, claiming his joining to be 'the most natural thing in the world,' the replacement of his individuality as an avoidance of the 'real world' demonstrates the imposed hierarchy of utopia.
