Stephen Crane was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1871. He was the fourteenth Child of a Methodist Priest. Unfortunately, Crane’s father died when he was only nine. In his youth, Crane never cared for schooling, and basically, he slacked off at his college, Syracuse University. He only stayed one semester and became well renowned on the baseball field rather than for academics. Crane not only wrote The Red Badge of Courage but many other novels, such as Active Service and Maggie, Girl of the Streets. In addition he wrote many short stories, a play, poems, and non-fiction book about war. But he only achieved world acclaim with Red Badge of Courage. He died 4 year after he finished the Red Badge of Courage – an Episode of the American Civil War.
