As Thomas Carlyle once stated "Economics is the dismal science." He was inspired to coin the phrase by T. R. Malthus's gloomy prediction that population would always grow faster than food, dooming mankind to unending poverty and hardship (Levy.) That hasn’t happened yet and economics in reality is an art - the art of trying to satisfy infinite needs with limited resources. Prospective physicians must be willing to study throughout their career to keep up with medical advances. They also will need to be flexible to respond to the changing demands of a rapidly evolving health care environment. Personally I have made up my mind, and feel fully motivated to continue what might seem a never-ending journey towards my ultimate goal.
