Obviously, Shakespeare did not make Othello and Iago alike for any particular reason. Men in the Elizabethan time period lived in the world where self image, as being tough, important and honorable was important. This human relationship among men still exists today. Darwinism scientifically shows “survival of the fittest.” Therefore, the view that pride equals importance influences Shakespeare’s Othello immensely.
