this could make up for all the years of suffering in silence at the mercy of her parents who did not seem to have any answers for her or any suggestions as to how a human being survives such a hard and cruel life, beyond, “Don’t cry about it,” and “Do better than I have done.” I felt empathy for her but found the bleakness of her life as presented in the book emotionally
