Many of the cruel truths of Siberian labor camps exposed in Alexander Solzhenitsyn's One Day In The Life of Ivan Denisovich shocked Russian readers. Solzhenitsyn's work was used to uncover atrocities committed during Stalin's rule and thus, further empower the new Russian leader, Khrushchev. The work also undermined the entire communist structure however and some say helped inspire its demise.
