All of these characters (bar Curley) can be branded as ‘Outsiders’ for the simple reasons that they all fall into the category of not being either male, white or rich. At the time of the book if you didn’t have all of these privileges you were classed as less important and therefore did not have an equally fair chance of achieving your dream in life.
