In the play, Don John is the villain based on what he says and does, but in the film, things around him show that he is bad; the darkness, the music, the clothes and colours worn. Branagh makes the surroundings suit Don John's feelings and personality, creating a whole scene of darkness and plots. Branagh brings Shakespeare's words to life.
