In Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, one of his latest ‘problem plays’; the character of Isabella is a focal point of arguments. In the play she is faced with a decision: either to lose her virginity and save her brother’s life, or to stay chaste, get admitted to the convent, but sealing her brother’s fate. …showed last 75 words of 1823 total…is… showing his own attitudes towards [Isabella]’s choice” (Schanzer 111), but he also showed that quality even more vividly and with less controversy in a male character, Angelo. But even though Angelo’s hypocrisy is much more vivid and obvious than Isabella’s, it doesn’t strike as big a reaction from me.
