Maria Montessori, a famous Italian physician and educator, was born in 1870 in a town called Chiaraville. In 1876, she graduated from the medical school in the University of Rome, and became the first female doctor in Italy. Shortly afterwards, she was chosen to represent Italy at two women’s conferences in Berlin in 1896 and in London in 1900.

Maria Montessori also wrote two books. In 1912, Dr. Montessori published The Montessori Method. Later in 1917, she published the Advanced Montessori Method. In 1949, 1950, and in 1951, she was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
In 1592, Maria Montessori died in Noordwijk, Holland. However, here work lived on through the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). Montessori Schools are existent around the world today.
