Union. They felt that their opinions were not being fairly taken into account, after all the Republicans again dismissed their threat of secession before Lincoln was even inaugurated. But what was clear evidence that their political power had waned was in the 1860 election where none of the Southern states voted for Lincoln and yet that didn’t seem to make a difference for he still won the election and therefore pushed the Union to secession.
