A psychoanalytical reading of Beach Burial may suggest that the sobbing of the gunfire is much more than the mere, mechanical noises of weapons, but human dignity itself, sobbing over the entire process of war. Death leaves the helpless soldiers without a will, without consciousness and robbed of their identity.
