Andrew Jackson was elected by the people and sought to act as the direct representative of the common man. Through his determination, Jackson helped to shape the democratic party as the prototype of the modern political organization. In Andrew Jackson’s presidential inauguration speech of 1829 Jackson foreshadowed his triumphs in office, stating that:

Jackson took an advanced position on civil equality and thus eventually came to be regarded as an equal to Jefferson. The two shared similar principles on democratic governing and justice. Contrary to Jefferson, Jackson provided an intense flare with his passionate rulings and controversial vetoes. He revolutionized the American government and provided a landmark presidency that set the tone for the United States in the mid-1800’s.
