I, William Shakespeare, wrote the play Henry V to commemorate a great English monarch. Henry the V’s father was called Bullingbrook and was Henry IV in an earlier play I wrote. The reason I wrote my play when I did was because England had just won the Spanish Armada after having a long period of time without any wars and it was an appropriate time for me to write a patriotic play with all the feelings of national unity.
