The three stories alo share the abscense of light that is described as gloom, mist and just plain darkness ewhich then involve extra eeriness by adding shadows, flickering candles and changing shapes all linked to ghostly figures relating to the supernatural or even monsters which are both the main parts of the stories that most importantly keep the readers gripped.
