Hemingway’s tales seem to always depict his life in some fashion. Throughout “A
Clean Well-Lighted Place,” Hemingway shows the emptiness in his own life by living it
out through the lives of his characters. He uses vivid words such as nada, and symbolic
metaphors to display this. This claim is not only true in this short story, but in many
others written by Hemingway.
