Cinematography, mise en scene, editing, and sound all play parts in helping the audience understand the complexity of the conflict between the film's two main characters. I believe that the relationship between Jake and Jesus was the primary focus of the film and I think that Spike Lee has shown a great deal of versatility as a director by doing so much to make that relationship more powerful.
