In the end, the elite eventually take over the majority of the rural land and culture. However, today people still observe many traditional Indian customs such as dress and language. The folk's resistance against "progress" in Latin America was very prevalent in the nineteenth century and although there are not many primary sources as to the actual events, Burns represents the folk culture and struggle well in his historical analysis.
