It was about nine p.m. on February 13, 1945; eight hundred and five British planes dropped twenty six hundred tons of bombs on Dresden. Soon the city was an inferno. The military argument was to exterminate all possible military equipment in Dresden. By the end of the bombing the cultural center of the city was totally destroyed. Meanwhile, the only possible military or economic targets, the barracks in
the city's north and the train station where trains carrying reserves for the Eastern Front might depart were left untouched.
