This style that Wideman uses can be very confusing to the reader, but the problem of slavery was also very confusing. The style compliments the theme very well. In conclusion, unlike any other story about slavery, Wideman’s “Damballah” tackles other issues; issues often overlooked in this type of story. Instead of being very cut and dry, this story has so much information that needs to be pieced together.
