In 500 BCE the government in Greece was just starting to form. The Athenian government was direct democracy. A democracy is when citizens can make decisions about the way that the government is run. The Spartan government was an oligarchy. An oligarchy is a government in which power is in the hands of a select few. …showed last 75 words of 474 total…people didn’t choose dominated Spartan government. In Sparta, the citizens voted on five Ephors. Ephors had the more power than anyone else did. They held the right to attend council meetings, summon the Assembly and, if necessary, arrest the kings or give any citizen a punishment of any kind. The Athenian democracy was much more just than the Spartan’s way of governing. Therefore, I would much rather reside in Athens than in Sparta.
