Coming of Age in Mississippi by Anne Moody is an autobiographical insight into the life of an African-American female during the turbulent civil rights movement of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Throughout the book we learn of the hardship endured by not just the protagonist, but also the entire African-American population at large.
