It was also down to the strong leaders that emerged in the 1950s-1960s, for example Martin Luther King who was the most successful leader in Civil Rights history also Malcolm X who brought in the Black Power Movement. So yes this staement is true and we have knowledge and sources to help us understand why it was successful.
