Currently, there exists an efficient, inexpensive method of attaching chromophores to the surface of conducting polymers, for it is these polymers that would carry the electromagnetic field. Films would have to be applied directly as a coat or polymerized directly onto fibers or other materials. Films could also be coated on highly conductive fibers (made from inherently conductive polymers or carbon fibers). These conductive fibers would provide a source for generating the electromagnetic field.
