From the establishment of America, conflicting social and political views have separated the north and south into two very different cultures. The start of the civil war can be attributed to two issues acting together: Westward expansion and slavery. Westward expansion caused political problems which in turn established adamant views on slavery from both sides. For some, it strengthened their belief in it. To others, it made them realize how morally wrong it was.
