He hardly thinks of anybody but himself and only flatters Holden when he wants something from him. J.D. Salinger portrayed the perfect athletic jock stereotype with the character Stradlater. He is also very effective in leading us to dislike him and appreciate Holden more by seeing the classmates he lives with.
