He just came back from war and he knows that people are going to die, he is more upfront about it then other people who inch around the topic. In the story you see him dealing with these emotions, of guilt and remorse. The story ended on a very sad note, Seymour "fired a bullet through his right temple. (Salinger, p.18)"
