The Baron, Lady Cunégonde’s brother, would not permit Candide to marry his sister because he was of a lower social class. Candide forced to be in the Bulgarian army and being punished for trying to escape. These are examples from the book in which Voltaire addresses the issues that were going on in that era. I believe that God used Voltaire’s book to address these public issues of the time.
