Webster’s dictionary defines the word hero as 1 a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b : an illustrious warrior c : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d : one that shows great courage. Personally, I define a hero almost exactly the way the dictionary does. I feel that heroes should have certain qualities such as courage, compassion, and a sense of justice. These are

s hard to tell if someone is really a hero or not. That’s when you look for the characteristics that make up a hero. Beowulf contained the three traits that I think are the most important: courage, compassion, and a sense of justice. He showed throughout the story that he had these traits. These are qualities that transcend time. They have and will always be qualities that true heroes, past and present, will possess.
