the people have to endure, they join “The unseen congregations whose white rows/ Lie set apart above- women, men” Death makes them all equal the hardships are behind and issues like sex, race and class all fall away. This doesn’t however stop the people from trying to stop the inevitable, “All know they are going to die” . Nothing can appease the angel of death but “ crowds each evening try/ with wasteful, weak propitiatory flowers .
