Though, surely, there were many social, economical, and political differences between the two regions that underlie the cause. These differences led intense disputes with no permanent solutions. Eventually, there was a house divided, and as Lincoln said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Sure enough, not many Americans were left standing after this intense battle that killed 620,000 people.
