often mistaken. One thing that isn’t taken into consideration is that there may be an inevitable tension between professional goals and private life. The doctor under pressure, like the ones in both of these stories, loses hope and feels as if the world around him defies his best efforts to be effective, patient, and reasonable, though he understands the divine work is not done by him but by the one above us all, God.
