With Ferlinghetti, the poet’s perception and word choice are inextricably bound within the poem. The experience of the poet must ultimately be in a sense “poetic”. The view of the poetry then is connected with the plurality of the poem. Like the comment by Robert Frost on what poetry is, “Poetry is the kind of thing that poets write.”
